E' partita ieri da Parma a Foggia la raccolta del pomodoro da salsa. L'Italia a causa del maltempo, fra grandinate, nubifragi, alluvioni e ondate di calore, rischia di produrre ancora meno dei 5,6 miliardi di chili previsti per il 2023 (dato quasi in linea con i 5,5 miliardi di chili della scorsa annata). Molte le incognite sulla più importante filiera dell'ortofrutta trasformata che vale 4,4 miliardi di euro, rivestendo un ruolo di traino dell'economia con circa 10 mila lavoratori fissi e oltre 25 mila stagionali

"Gli incrementi dei prezzi a scaffale degli ultimi mesi nella maggior parte dei casi non si sono tradotti in maggiori profitti e serviranno solo a coprire parzialmente i costi in continua crescita", denuncia Marco Serafini, presidente Anicav, (Associazione nazionale industriali conserve alimentari vegetali). Molti brand occidentali hanno bloccato le importazioni di pomodori dalla regione cinese dello Xinjiang a seguito degli abusi perpetrati dal governo sulla popolazione musulmana degli Uiguri. La raccolta avverrebbe infatti grazie allo sfruttamento dei prigionieri politici e della minoranza musulmana.
