Betlemme, annullati i festeggiamenti di Natale: solidarietà a Gaza

Non si festeggerà il Natale quest’anno a Betlemme, niente luci o addobbi che in questo periodo solitamente adornano la città che ospita la Basilica della Natività, le celebrazioni saranno soltanto religiose. Le autorità del luogo hanno annunciato che questa decisione è volta a mostrare solidarietà ai palestinesi di Gaza

Niente celebrazioni del Natale quest’anno a Betlemme, in segno di solidarietà con i palestinesi di Gaza, mentre la guerra tra Israele e Hamas non mostra segnali di tregua e il bilancio parla già di oltre 20mila morti. A comunicarlo sono le autorità locali della città che ospita la Basilica della Natività

Durante il periodo natalizio Betlemme ospita solitamente molti turisti, con i pellegrini che si dividono tra la Piazza della Mangiatoia e la Chiesa della Natività. La Chiesa ha un importante significato religioso per i cristiani in quanto luogo di nascita di Gesù ed è ritenuto tra i luoghi di culto cristiani più antichi al mondo

Al posto dell’albero di Natale che ogni anno occupa quella zona, è stata installata un'opera d'arte chiamata 'Natività sotto le macerie'

L'opera è stata inaugurata nella serata di ieri da Rula Maayah, ministra palestinese del Turismo, e Hana Hananiyeh, sindaco di Betlemme. Raffigura il presepe tra i resti di un edificio demolito, a simboleggiare la sofferenza dei palestinesi di Gaza

Si terrà infatti la messa di mezzanotte il 24 nella Natività con l'ingresso del Patriarca di Gerusalemme. Poi domani la messa di Natale dalle 10: "In 35 anni non ho mai trascorso un Natale così drammatico", ha dichiarato lo stesso
