In Spagna, tra i Paesi più colpiti dalla nuova ondata, stanno per entrare in vigore nuove restrizioni. da lunedì 21 settembre Madrid affronta una nuova chiusura in parte della città: 858mila abitanti dei quartieri a sud saranno in "lockdown", il 13% della popolazione della città. In Canada la provincia dell'Ontario ha adottato misure restrittive vietando i raduni con più di 10 persone al chiuso e più di 25 all'aperto. Sono previste multe salate per chi non rispetta le misure. Anche se secondo un sondaggio tre quarti della popolazione canadese sarebbe favorevole ad un eventuale ulteriore lockdown se il Paese venisse colpito da una seconda ondata di Covid-19
