Perseids in the night sky photographed near the lighthouse Rt Marlera, near Pula, Croatia on August 12, 2021.
Perseids are a meteor swarm whose radiant is in the star Perseus, and is observed from July 25 to August 20, with the highest frequency on August 12, when 80 meteors per hour can appear. These meteors move at an average geocentric speed of 60 km/h. It originates from the orbit of comet Swift-Tuttle, and in Croatia we call Perseids the Tears of St. Lawrence.
