In Sri Lanka i manifestanti hanno fatto irruzione nella residenza presidenziale, nella capitale Colombo, e hanno dato fuoco alla casa del primo ministro Ranil Wickremesinghe. L'ondata di proteste ha portato alle dimissioni sia del capo del governo che del presidente Gotabaya Rajapaksa, che lascerà la carica a partire dal 13 luglio "per garantire una transizione pacifica", ha annunciato a fine giornata il capo del parlamento Mahinda Abeywardana in una dichiarazione televisiva per cercare di calmare le proteste
