Candidati ai Grammy i lavori selezionati tra quelli pubblicati tra il 1° ottobre 2021 e il 30 settembre 2022. Lo scorso anno sono state assegnate 86 statuette. A partire dall’edizione 2023, l’Academy ha deciso di assegnare ulteriori cinque premi alle categorie: Cantautore dell’anno non classico, Miglior performance di musica alternativa, Miglior performance americana, Miglior colonna sonora per videogiochi e altri media interattivi e Miglior album di poesie e parole parlate

Una menzione a parte, infine, merita il premio per la Miglior canzone per il cambiamento sociale, assegnato a tutti quei testi che affronteranno questioni sociali come l’inclusività, la pace e la lotta contro le discriminazioni. Lo scorso anno, il musicista statunitense Jon Batiste è stato il grande protagonista con ben cinque vittorie su undici nomination, tra i premi anche quello nella categoria Record of the Year

Secondo i bookmaker, tra i dischi favoriti alla vittoria del grammofono come "Best Album" ci sono "30" di Adele (pubblicato a novembre 2021) e l’ultimo lavoro di Beyoncé, "Renaissance" (uscito il 29 luglio di quest’anno).
