“R.E.M. At The BBC”: il 18 ottobre la mega antologia di Stipe e soci

Otto cd più un dvd. Una vera opera omnia quella che i R.E.M. daranno alle stampe, con data di uscita prevista per il 18 ottobre. Dentro ci saranno le registrazioni di gran parte dei live tenuti dalla band per la BBC tra il 1984 ed il 2008. Una relazione, quella con la BBC, che Michael Stipe e soci hanno portato avanti con reciproca soddisfazione per oltre due decenni e che sfocia in questo cofanetto da collezionisti. L’opera sarà in vendita anche in un’edizione “compressa” in doppio cd o doppio vinile e ogni settimana, per coloro che preordinano online il volume, sarà subito disponibile in download uno dei brani contenuti nell’album. Questa settimana tocca al super classico “Losing My Religion” nella versione registrata nel 1991 per “Into The Night” di BBC 1.

Cosa trovare in “R.E.M. At The BBC”

Tra il materiale presente in versione audio spicca la registrazione di un concerto tenuto nel 1984 al Rock City di Nottingham, quella del loro set da headliner al festival di Glastonbury nel 1999 e quella di un concerto intimo tenuto nel 2004 alla St. James Church di Londra. Ma probabilmente è ancor più intrigante il materiale video contenuto nel dvd. Al suo interno, una retrospettiva di sessanta minuti delle leggendarie esibizioni della band alla BBC nel film “Accelerating Backwards”, trasmesso in precedenza solo nel Regno Unito e ora messo in commercio per la prima volta. Sarà possibile ascoltare le interviste a Peter Buck, Mike Mills e Michael Stipe e poi l’episodio completo successivo del 1998 di “Later....With Jools Holland” dedicato unicamente alla band, oltre alle apparizioni in tv a “Top of the Pops” ed altro ancora.
