Per l’utilizzo domiciliare di questo strumento, il ministero della Salute ha spiegato che si deve tenere conto di alcune cose, a cominciare dal fatto che il margine medio di accuratezza dei saturimetri commerciali è stimabile nell’ordine di +4% (è questo uno dei motivi per cui la soglia critica è stata fissata al 92%)

Occhio al funzionamento senza materiale di consumo dedicato (sensori)

"Non si può aspettare che un malato vada in crisi respiratoria, perchè a quel punto è già caduto nell'abisso, i polmoni sono compromessi. Bisogna fornire il saturimetro a casa a chi è in quarantena, perchè rileva in tempo la riduzione dei parametri di ossigenazione del sangue". Lo afferma il presidente nazionale del 118 Mario Balzanelli. L'importanza del saturimetro per chi si trova in isolamento viene sottolineata anche dalla Federazione dei medici di famiglia (Fimmg) e dagli anestesisti che chiedono un cambio di passo nell'approccio clinico al Covid-19.
